Summary

So for this design, I wanted to add some custom touches to my 1987 Cabriolet. My friends call it the zombie convertible because I brought it back from the dead! I decided to go with that theme, and printed these center caps for it. Currently they're on some crummy mk3 wheels but they do the job and I think they look great! A new "sandwiched" version is now available that is much more robust. Give it a look. :-)

            <div><p>I wanted to post an update on this, since I've made some improvements and wanted to throw a re-designed cap on my car before Halloween!</p><p>The original design as installed worked OK for awhile, but if you were to remove/reinstall them there was a high chance of having the clips break due to the tension against the layers when installing. This may be fixed by using ABS if you still wish to try the original design. I also had issues with the fingers breaking off, which is mostly just an annoyance.</p><p>Version 2 is in 3 pieces but yields a much more robust design. Sadly, fingers were also removed.</p><p>Print the center cap from TPU (I used Sainsmart brand). Semi-flex is recommended. 100% infill.</p><p>Print the top from whatever material you prefer. I did AIO robotics white PLA. We'll see how it lasts in the elements, but this car isn't driven in bad weather. I did 100% infill due to the screw-in design.</p><p>Print the retaining disc @ 100% infill.</p><p>Assembly:<br>Install a small machine screw (like from a piece of electronics equipment, old stereo, etc) through all three pieces to hold the assembly together. If you're like me, you probably have a few lying around. I DID also use adhesive between the top and the cap to help it seal up better.
