Chess board with tessellated design

Update 2021/03/18: added an additional version in which all odd fields are lowered by 0.6 mm.

Cool looking chess pieces are plentiful on Thingiverse. Cooling looking chess boards are much less common. As such, I've attempted to create a chess board with an interesting design (tessellated hexagonal shapes).

The print on the photos was done in aluminum, but this design should be very doable with FDM as well. Recommended layer height is 0.25 mm since all Z-axis dimensions are a multiple of it. For a nice effect, I recommend treating all 'white' (or all 'black') fields in some way in order to enhance the contrast between the white and black fields. Think of sand blasting, polishing, painting/lacquering, maybe something else.
