Description
This is small modular Machine Vise with integrated clamp for desk edge attachment. As bolts and nuts are already invented, I designed 3D printed machine vise around these. This gives extra strength and less flex in the system. Also, you can utilize metal screw to work on pull for smaller dimensions, faster movement and again stronger machine vise. Design idea is hexagon (nut) shape. Design is modular for fast printing (all details can be printed mostly horizontally). Could have been designing separate jaw face pieces, but then thought: "Why?". You can always print new jaws in case you damage first set.
Jaw dimensions: 30 mm wide, 11 mm high jaws can fit up to 45 mm long items. You can fix it to max 32 mm thick desk.
Made from PET-G. Needed are M8x80 mm screw, M8 standard nut both with 13 mm hexagon head and M5x25 mm screw (in case your desk is thinner than 20mm, you need longer M5 screw) Both screws must be fully threaded. As working on pull and stabilize the vise planes it is not good idea to use plastic print alternative screws. You need about 50g of filament for all parts together. Printing time is 4-5h for dependent on settings. Plastic machine vise is for sure meant for lighter work, not for heavy machinery!
Dutyhook Vise Parts
M8_KNOB and M5_KNOB: knobs for the screws
DESK_CLAMP: to attach your machine vise to the desk edge
CLAMP_WASHER: for protecting your desk from sharp screw end
VISE_BASE: for keeping the jaws moving aligned
JAW_FIXED: at the edge of the desk
JAW_MOVING: to fix your items
M8_STOPPER: for having some support on screw for opening the jaws
All items are oriented correctly in stl files, no need to rotate anything. I used 0.15 print height for nice outlook, but it will print with 0.2 also (you save approximately an hour). Important, please use 3 perimeter lines and 7-10 base and top layers for stronger shell. Infill Grid 30% is sufficient. For faster printing and smoother surface, you can set infill angle 90. If you want to mess more then for both JAWS and DESK_CLAMP best is to keep layer height 0.15, but all the rest should be adequate with 0.2 also.
EDIT: Corrected the nut alignment inside DESK_CLAMP and replaced the file. If downloaded before 28 March 2019 and have slicing problems you should download the improved DESK_CLAMP file again. If still problems you can try file DESK_CLAMP_vs.
