Description
I have a complete FlowHive beehive including their broodbox and super. There are several entrance reducers on here but they are for standard height entrances. The flow hive is shorter. I made this one based on dimensions of the opening that someone posted online since my hive is 90 miles away right now. It is getting cold here in SE Texas and my bees might appreciate a smaller opening to protect and keep the heat in.
This entrance reducer has two different size openings, 20 and 40 mm. They are both 8.5 mm tall. The reducer is 12x12 x 325mm. The second is the same but only 320.5 mm long. I found two different dimension sources and don't know which is right at this point. . Depending on how you orient it, one or the other is available for use. I included slots to make it easier to pry it out for removal. Handles would not work since it flips 90 degrees from using the different size opening and permanent handles would be in the way.
Printing: Just lay it flat and orient on your bed to print. It fits an Ultimaker S5. It might have to be split for smaller printers. I printed mine out of corn based PLA in case the bees decide to chew it up. I figured that would be safer than ABS for them.
I have not tested it for fit yet and am depending on the accurate measurements from a flow hive owner who had easier access.
I have also found reports that the entrance tapers from 13 MM on the outside to 12 on the inside. With that in mind I also created a tapered version of each length.
