Description

This is my first larger design project, where each and every part is 100% designed by myself. I made all parts in Tinkercad, and with the design revisions on the way before final design, I spent about 15 hours designing these. This was built for using wind feature in Simfeedback, but it can be used with various other controllers as well, simhub/simwind, what else is there.

The fans I use are Noctua 3000rpm 140mm fans. They are controlled with the PWM signal by an Arduino Uno, so there's no need for monster moto or anything else besides the uno for controlling, and a sufficient 12V power supply to power the fans.
Some reliable sellers on ebay for these fans are for example:
(US): https://ebay.us/GD4Yqf and https://ebay.us/Tyzufr
(UK): https://ebay.us/jTxwGU and https://ebay.us/I3kd1K

And for Arduino Uno:

The reason I decided to design my own parts for the bracket as well as the flow straightener was, that the other alternatives that I could find were either too flimsy (for a moving SFX-100 platform), too big and heavy, or not effective enough in terms of airflow straightening. I printed many before deciding to design my own. In my own design I use a honeycomb mesh that's approximately twice the length to its diameter for each "tunnel", which should be enough to straighten the airflow, and this is supported by my own testing.

So, parts you need to print:

  • Airflow straightener
  • Back frame (please choose LEFT, MID or RIGHT version depending on your mounting location)
  • 4040 M8 Gopro mount (You can use any other gopro mount instead, if you like, but this has screw holes for M8 screws which I use for most mounting on my 8040 rig)

Optional:

  • Spacers

I printed all parts without any supports or adhesion on my Ender 5, my hotend is titan volcano and the filament used was Geeetech black PLA. You might want to add some between the lower screw holes on the top of the frame, but for me it printed OK, though little cleaning with an exacto knife was needed. Please use at least 3 walls, and at least 25% infill for other parts, but the mounting bracket I recommend >50%. The spacers are provided to be applied between the screw holes in the noctua fan, as if you screw in the screws tight, the frame would bend otherwise. So these are not absolutely necessary, but if you want to make sure it's rigid, especially with a motion platform, I recommend using them at least for the top 2 screws.
Some good places to buy my trusted Geeetech PLA filament are:

(GER): https://ebay.us/28gQAO and https://ebay.us/GkpeHZ

It would be great to see makes of this posted, and I am keen to hear comments. I am stoked for my first larger design, and I hope you find it useful too. Some day in the future I am looking forward to perhaps even getting my first tip as a designer. :D It will be a glorious day. EDIT: After 2 years I am still looking forward to it, LOL. I added some affiliate links above to the items needed, it would be appreciated if you can use those links to purchase the items.
