##Bowrigami - 3DPrinted on fabric origami bow-tie
A wonderful bowtie made 3dprinting on a tulle net, a wearable origami!

WORK IN PROGRESS: soon more details will be provided

Don't hesitate to ask for any info or to suggest for any modification

Share your thoughts on the comments and your makes!

1 - The design type 1 is more "aggressive" and asymmetrical
2 - The design type 2 is more "classic" and symmetric

The supports are designed to be used with a ribbon of 25mm.

When folded the body can be glued however its not strictly necessary, it should be locked in the supports.

How to get your Bowrigami:

  • Chose your fabric. I chose a tulle piece (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulle_(netting)), perfect because the melted plastic can fill the tulle gaps and perfectly join the lower and upper parts of the print
  • A large enough piece of fabric to cover all the "body" of the bow-tie.
  • Start printing the body of the bowtie
  • Stop the print at half height (0.6mm) manually or using slicers "stop at height" functionality
  • Position the fabric adherent to the first part of the print and secure the fabric to the build plate with a scotch tape resistant to the build plate heat.
  • Beware not to move the build plate and not to let the print cooldown too much during the fabric placement phase
  • Restart the print and complete it
  • Cut the remaining chunks of fabric on the extenal edges of the bow-tie body
  • Optionally you can also remove the fabric from *inside the triangles using a cutter.
  • Print the bow-tie support
  • Fold the bow-tie and put it in its support properly
  • Use an elastic ribbon to fit it around the neck

The folding technique used in this designs (type1 and type) can be easily reconfigured to generate different results and shapes. Some ideas:

  • Triangles can be reduced or incremented in dimension
  • Triangles width can be reduced to achieve a lighter design
  • The more the fabric is rigid and difficult to bend the more the final result will be sturdy and less prone to bend improperly
  • Triangles can be designed asymmetrically: isosceles
  • The border of the triangles can be thickened or increased
  • Some triangles can be printed fully to achieve a 2D pattern

Print it and share your results. It's easy! Click "post a make" or download 3D Geeks: for 3D Printing APP and take a pic! I'll be happy to know that my design was helpful to someone.
