Description

Made for a direct drive extruder this clip on filament guide keeps the filament from self de-spooling off your reel when it has coil memory and is very full or very low. No more tangle knots around your spool rod. Automatically contains the filament when it winds back on the spool during long movements of extruder.

The arm should work with standard wide spools as well as thinner ones. The arm clips onto an 8mm spool holding rod where it can rotate and is sized to work in conjunction with semi-flush spool adapter hubs like these: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4609776

The arm can be installed around a setup using a floating Bowden tube between 10" to 20" long. The floating Bowden tube already keeps the filament from coiling up between the spool and the extruder but does not keep the spool from continuing to un-reel. It can be installed around guided filament that is already fed into the extruder without unloading or removing the spool. Installation is accomplished by clipping the arm to the 8mm spool rod on both sides of the spool and passing the filament through the 2mm notch then slipping the Bowden tube through the "C" clip center hole. Done.

The "C" clip is a print in place rotating assembly part that allows the guide to orient with the changing diameter of the filament as it is used up and prevent binding. See the Post -Printing comments for freeing it from the print so that it can spin.

This is a tight tolerance piece designed for a 0.1mm tolerance filament calibration (0.2mm clearance) or tighter. It is highly recommended that you use thermally calibrated filament using these calibration clips found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1037301
