UPDATES:
I've now added one variant to the bowl holder (details to follow). Since there may come a time when multiple variants of the holder for different makers' boards exist, I am going to start using the two following bits of format for updates:
-Renamed the original bowl holder file to Button_Bowl_Holder_MaydayKS_2020 to specify which board it fits.
-Added Button_Bowl_Holder_BrownCastle, a variant for the bowl holder designed to fit on BrownCastle Crokinole boards
--I have NOT tested the fit of this holder as I do not have one of those boards, but Steven was helpful in providing dimensions so I could adjust the design for them. The only significant change is that the rails on the BrownCastle boards are notably thinner than the rails on the Mayday bowls.
---------------ORIGINAL INFO BELOW-----------------
Finally got my first Crokinole board (2020 Mayday Kickstarter) and of course I had to start making things for it. My son and I often play using one of our ottoman / coffee tables as the table because the height ends up working really well for him and it means we don’t block off the whole living room. Unfortunately this also means that unlike playing on a card table, we don’t have corners to put things on, like score keepers, buttons, etc.
These bowls were inspired by https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3669730 but I wanted a little more security from the lids and the original bowls just slid around too much in the holders I designed, so I started from scratch in Fusion 360 and designed all new bowls and lids. Now they can be used for play and storage, and work both with and without the holders, as differing table situations allow.
Bowls are about 82mm / 3.25” in diameter and about 50mm / 2” tall without the lid. They hold 14 discs (this is how many of each color came with the Kickstarter) comfortably for storage. You could probably also use these for Gliss / wax powder, but I make ZERO claims to how well the lid would keep it from spilling all over it tipped / inverted.
Everything prints without supports as oriented. For the lid, 10% infill is probably fine, but you’ll want 20% or more for the holder just for strength.
The bowl model is a solid piece, and CAN be printed in vase mode / spiralize outer contour. This, however, isn’t the strongest. What I do is print them with 0% infill, 2-3 outer walls, 4 bottom layers, and 0 top layers. Basically makes it a double or triple thick vase mode print. Ends up being plenty strong for the intended use.
Something to keep in mind:
Board Diameter: 775mm
Rail Thickness: 9mm
Outside Height: 38mm
Inside Height: 29mm
The channel on the holder is about 9mm wide and slightly curved to match the curve on my Mayday board. The outside leg of the holder is 28.5mm high and the inside leg is 16mm high. This lets it sit securely and leaves enough room in the ditch for discs to slide underneath.
Whether this works for YOUR board, I cannot say for certain. I’m happy to tweak the design for other boards, but I’d need all those dimensions listed above and on the cross section photo to do so.
