Description
The upgraded lens housing in this video is optimized for Tokina RMC 35-105mm f3.5 FD mount lenses. There are a number of different camera mount types of lenses, as well as sibling lenses with almost similar optical configurations available under brands such as Vivitar and Hoya. I think these lenses will not fit well with this lens housing because of the difference in appearance and focus ring operation method.
The Tokina RMC 35-105mm f3.5 is an older zoom lens made in the late 70s. I had a preconceived notion that the optical performance of the old zoom lens was very poor for a long time, so I didn't pay much attention, and I mostly enjoyed using the prime lens. Of course, it's hard to say that a vintage manual zoom lens is better compared to the optical performance of the latest zoom lenses, but it's not as terrible as my preconceptions. When it comes to the optical performance of this lens, I think it shows the general performance of vintage zoom lenses of the 70s. The flare or glow effect at the maximum aperture in some zoom ranges is a bit disappointing.
The Tokina RMC 35-105mm f3.5 is for still cameras, but I think it's very heavy and more sturdy than necessary. This is a pretty big advantage in designing/mounting the lens housing. And the operation part of this lens is quite complicated with two focus rings, a zoom ring, an aperture ring, and an FD mount breech lock wrench. When we talk about the focus ring for a moment, the main focus ring on the front has a shortest shooting distance of only 1.5m, but it is a "Parfocal Zoom" that keeps the focus constant even with a change in zoom, and the focus has a large turning radius, allowing precise manual focusing have. However, since the front of the lens is rotated by focus operation, there may be restrictions on the use of a PL filter or hood. And "The Close focus" can reduce the shortest shooting distance, but "Parfocal Zoom" is not maintained. Having two focus operation rings has an advantage on the one hand, but it is also inconvenient in a general use method.
The upgraded lens housing is designed to wrap around the lens while retaining the original housing of the lens.

I bought this lens very cheaply on eBay and I wasn't disappointed because the expectations weren't high. Asking if this lens can be recommended to users of the current era is more useful than you might think, but if you are not a manual focus enthusiast, I don't want to recommend it.
