Parametric Vintage Automotive Cable/Switch Pull Knobs!
Mainly for use on old British sports cars for Choke, Wipers, Heater, Light switches...etc. For Austin Healey, Triumph, MGA, and other Leyland vehicles.

Also generic pull knobs for furniture drawers are possible.

Square and round knobs option provided. If there is sufficient interest I may enhance to add other styles.

One possibility is you can buy a modern and inexpensive universal choke cable for about $8 and then 3d print one of these knobs and adapt to maintain vintage look. You could epoxy glue or pin the knob to the new cable.

The part could be printed in FDM with ABS an then vapor smoothed. However, I suggest using a UV resin printer to recreate part with detail. Then paint with VHT epoxy satin to reproduce a Bakelite look or gloss to look like 70's gloss plastic.

Optionally wipe on, wipe off white silicone or paint to fill lettering.

Also I would like to add that one can use a symbolic "wingding" font to place non-text iconography instead of text on the knob. I have not located any free fonts that provide standard automotive iconography, but there are paid fonts that are available. There are free fonts that do cover some universal symbiology like hazards and lighting. If you are aware of a good free automotive symbol font then please leave a comment where other may download. If there is sufficient interest (and a few coffee tips!) I may create a font set to include with this package. I'll try to cover most of the Leyland cases.

Update 4/3/23 : I've created a Dashicons.ttf font set that was based on freely available dashboard iconography. I added a few additional Leyland symbols. New symbols may be added in the future.

The font set was created with the open source Font Forge program and a Font Forge project file is included. The symbols start at SPACE and go through the alphabet and punctuation symbols.

Additional symbols are beyond at ascii 160-191. These can be accessed using text=chr(160); when specifying the knob text in the OpenSCAD script.
