Description

The wooden box was built using 3/4" MDF (~2' x 4'). I bought the standard Lasko box fan from Wal-Mart, removed the back grate, and re-routed the cable out the front (see picture). I also used some 1/4" self-adhesive foam weather stripping to seal the fan edges--just place this around the (now exposed) back metal edge of the box fan.

I cut the MDF up and glued the parts together to make the box. It holds five 20"x20x1" furnace filters. I used generic MERV 13 filters from Costco. Filters tend to run small, so the opening for the filters is 19.75" x 19.75" x 7/8". The Costco filters were even smaller than this, but I wanted to keep it compatible with the 3M filters that run closer to their nominal size. I attached it to the ceiling with screws (connected to beams) and heavy duty screw hooks (connected to box).

I printed all parts in PETG, but I would have preferred to use ASA if I'd had some in gray.

Wooden Pieces (Counts):

1.5" x 22.75" (4)
1.5" x 19.75" (12)
5/8" x 19.75" (10)
5/8" x 18.25" (10)
6" x 6" (2, each cut diagonally for 4 individual pieces)

Printed Pieces (Counts):

Filter Clips (20)
Fan Anchor (8)
Fan Hook (8)
