This is a remix of johnny0stars excellent work. I wanted to try and make a stand that met the following requirements:
- Lid closes with stand + charger in situ
- Can be adapted to fit different phones
- Doesn't lift out when removing phone with 1 hand
- Charges phone when phone is in stand
While talking on https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xf-xfr-x250-44/3d-printed-phone-holder-271839/ it was highlighted that it could work for LHD as well with a stand that was not angled towards the driver so this design is included as well, however it is untested as I live in an RHD country!
I used the following charger and cable for my purposes. The charger and cable fit into the charger socket while still allowing the lid to close:
Charger - AINOPE https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B09MFTH8T5
Cable - AAOTOKK https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08CY32TRR
- Print the stand for your car (LHD or RHD)
- Print the arms. For RHD cars the larger arm goes on the right. For LHD cars the larger arm goes on the left. On some prints these come out as a very tight fit and some they are a little loose - once fitted to the car this doesn't matter, they don't need gluing in my experience.
If you use a case on your phone, you will probably skip to step 5. The phone inserts are a tight fit to a bare handset and will not work with a case.
- Print/adapt a phone insert for your model of phone and chosen charger cable. The included Fairphone design is a fairly generic 6.3" Android device
Fit the charger cable into the phone insert and clip the 2 halves together to trap the cable in place.
- Insert the phone insert into the stand from above - it is a tight fit!
- Feed the charger cable through the gap in the stand so that it can reach the charger socket
- Push the stand with the arms fitted into the cubby - you may have to manipulate the outer trim of the centre console to get it to fit.
