I really like the tiny size, excellent cooling, configurability, lighting options and overall design of the Dragon Burner toolhead originally for the Voron 0.2 by Chirpy (https://github.com/chirpy2605/voron/tree/main/V0/Dragon_Burner).
As pictured in the images, I am using the Galileo 2 extruder on the toolhead (with the Orbiter 2 comforming mount). You can configure this toolhead to be Bowden or use other well known extruders. Additionally it is using the Revo Voron hotend mount (which this kit adapts to add the bltouch mount)
I made this kit to adapt to the Ender 5 Plus that has has a top linear rail to the x axis, but still has the original simple X/Y motion system. This kit requires minimal changes to a stock Ender 5 Plus with aftermarket added top linear rail on the X axis.
Included Models:
- MGN12H Carriage Block Mount for single belt motion systems on a 2020 vrail (includes pre-measured x endstop bumper)
- Updated Dragon Burner Revo Voron Mounting module to add a bltouch mount.
- X endstop riser with adjustment
- Bed Riser to allow bed to go higher by 10mm. (The toolhead sits higher than stock and the existing bed rack will top out before touching the nozzle without these)
- Linear rail end guard that I use (totally optional, but fits the aesthetic)
Parts you will need to source for this kit (on top of whatever is normally required for the DB toolhead):
- Belt: 2GT 6mm Width Timing Belt 2mm Pitch - need at least 2 M. (closer to just over 1 meter, but good to have some room for error)
- Standard heat set inserts already described in the Dragon Burner GitHub.
- Screws For:
- Carriage Block Mount: 4 ea M3 x 6mm socket head
- Toolhead Mount Rear: 1 ea M3 x 30mm socket head
- Toolhead Mount ront: 2 ea M3 x 35mm socket head
- X endstsop riser with adjustment: 1 ea M3 or M4 around 10mm L (and t-nut)
- Linear Rail End Guard: 1 ea M3 x 10mm (and t-nut)
- Bed Risers: 8 ea M4 x 20mm
Instructions:
- Get all the main Dragon Burner parts from the GitHub linked above, install heat set inserts, assemble per the original instructions.
- Print parts in this e5plus kit. (all parts just 1 each, except the bed risers, you will need 4)
- Install the 2 heat set inserts on the carriage block for the front through screws as well as on the revo voron hotend mount. (see the GitHub for the DB mount for specific instructions)
- Remove any existing toolhead and belt.
- Install the linear rail on the x gantry (if not already installed). An end guard with matching aesthetic is provided in the kit if needed.
- If needed, install the X end stop adjustment riser so the end stop sits flush with the linear rail and can be adjusted left to right. You can use an M3 or M4 screw approx. 8-10mm length through the riser and secure with a t-nut.
- Install the bed risers by removing the existing 8 screws and carefully lift each corner of the bed mount to slide in the riser. Replace the stock shorter M4 screws with M4 screws that are approx. 20mm in length. You will need these with a standard Revo Voron and Revo nozzles. If you have a longer heatsink/nozzle combo, this might not be necessary, but will work regardless.
- Install the X carriage mounting block to your rails MGN12H carriage with four M3 x 6mm socket head screws
- Insert one end of the new belt into one side of the mounting block and pull end to the back and then behind the belt path so the teeth engage each other. Use a tie wrap to firmly secure the belt about 2 inches away from the block. Wind the belt through the motion system behind the gantry around to the other side and then repeat the process on the other side. Leave a mild amount of slack to allow for adjusting with the stock tensioner on the left end of the gantry. (see images)
- Assemble the dragon burner toolhead with the other stock parts from the official github, except use the Revo Voron mount from the kit with BLTOUCH mount if you want to use the bltouch. If you dont use a bltouch, you can just use any of the hotend mounts that are it in the original github.
- Mount the toolhead to the carriage block with the M3x30mm from the rear and two M3x35mm through the front of the cowl.
Hope this works for you, it is working great for me as a holdover before I consider a ZeroG CoreXY upgrade.
Once installed the probe offsets are:
X: -34
Y: -4
Z: between -2.0 to -2.2 , but tune for your system to be exact
I am also able to easily get 360 x 360 bed dimensions and no vertical height is sacrificied, full 400mm. (Could probably get 410-420 if you don't mind getting close at the bottom)
