Easy-Swap Thread Spool Holder

A thread spool holder with an easily detachable magnetic side for 35-65mm long spools that also includes an embroidery scissors holder and space for a donut-shaped pin cushion or scrunchy.

Materials:
• PLA/PETG
• 4x M4 20mm screws
• 2-4x M4 nuts
• 4x 10x3mm Cylindrical magnets
• Super glue (for the magnets)
• Donut Pin Cushion (see instructions below) OR Scrunchy (see instructions below)
• Spare pennies (optional) (for adding weight)
• Wall tack (optional) (or any small non-slip feet alternative)

Printing Notes:
• Print at 0.2mm layer height
• No supports are required to print this device, although I recommend using a few for the overhangs created by the M4 nut indents.
• Consider printing the parts with more perimeters and higher infill to increase the device's overall weight.

Other Notes:
• The thread spool holder positioner works in increments of 35, 45, 55, and 65mm

Donut Pin Cushion Instructions:

1. Cut two circles with a 6-inch diameter out of a fabric of your choice (recommended: quilting cotton).
2. In the center of each circle, cut a hole with a 1.25-inch diameter to create two donuts.
3. Line the two donuts' upright sides of the fabric together and sew the inner and outer edges of the fabric together.
4. Make a cut from the outside to the inside of the donut. This will turn your donut into a C-shaped tube. Turn the tube right-side out.
5. Stuff the tube with stuffing of your choice (I used quilt batting scraps, but polyfill also works).
6. Once the tube is mostly stuffed, fold the edges of one end of the tube inwards by about a quarter of an inch. Then tuck the unfolded end of the tube into the folded end of the tube so that no raw edges are visible. Check the snugness of the tube around the cylinder on the spool holder. You may need to add more stuffing or tighten the fit tube/donut by pushing more of the tube inside itself.
7. Once you are happy with the fit and stuffing of the tube/donut, hand stitch the two ends of the tube together with a whip stitch. I started on the inside of the tube and then worked my way around to the outside and then back to the inside again.
8. Glue your donut to the cylinder on the spool holder with your glue of choice (I used 3 small drops of hot glue for easy removal if necessary).

The Scrunchy Method:

1. Purchase a medium-sized scrunchy from a store. (The inner circle should be able to stretch to 1.25 inches in diameter and the outer circle should be about 6 inches in diameter.) Try to select a scrunchy with a matte fabric finish. Satin fabrics will often pull and not last as well.
2. Cut a 1-inch slit in the scrunchy and use the slit to add stuffing until the scrunchy is firm. If you can, try to cut a slit by opening a seam on the scrunchy, but if you can't find one or don't have a seam ripper, you can just cut directly into the fabric. (You can use a stuffing like polyfill or cut-up fabric scraps.)
3. Whip stitch the slit closed. This likely won't look super pretty, but you should be able to hide the seam when you glue the scrunchy/pincushion to the spool holder.
