Under-Bed HVAC Airflow Redirector

A simple and effective airflow redirection tool designed for HVAC or central air systems. This part attaches to standard rectangular floor vents, guiding cool or warm air from under a bed or obstructed area to an open clearance zone. Perfect for maximizing room comfort, especially in bedrooms where furniture blocks efficient air circulation.

๐Ÿ”ฅ 3/9/25 Update โ€“ Two New Magnet-Compatible Models! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Due to higher-than-expected interest, Iโ€™ve added two new models featuring a slightly wider lip (does not impact functionality with most vents):

  1. Slotted Magnet Version โ€“ Features embossed slots on the bottom to accommodate ring-style neodymium magnets (Home Depot, see pic for details) 9.53mm OD x 3.18mm ID x 1.53mm thick. After printing, simply superglue the magnets into the slots for a strong, secure hold.

  2. Embedded Magnet Version โ€“ Same magnet layout, but the magnets are embedded under 0.75mm of plastic. The slot has a slight amount of play to avoid printer damage while ensuring a clean look.

๐Ÿšจ Important Printing Notes for the Magnet Versions

  • Layer Height:
    • 0.2mm recommended for all versions.
    • The embedded magnet version could benefit from 0.25mm layer height if the magnets are exceptionally strong (to increase layer adhesion over the magnets).
  • Slotted Version: Print normally, then glue in magnets post-print.
  • Embedded Version: Requires a print pause to manually insert the magnets before they are sealed in:
    • 0.25mm layers โ†’ Pause at start of layer 11 (2.75mm height)
    • 0.2mm layers โ†’ Pause at start of layer 13 (2.6mm height)
  • CAUTION:
    • Do not print the embedded version with a hardened steel nozzle.
    • Before printing, test (lay magnets on the bed and move the hotend around) to ensure your extruder or direct drive setup does not pull the magnets out due to errant steel parts.

Features

  • Fits: Standard HVAC vent opening (250mm L x 102mm W / ~9.8" L x ~4" W).
  • Maximum Vent Slot + Adjustment Wheel (Long Way): 98mm x 246mm (~3.858" x 9.685")
  • Output: Directs airflow to a concentrated stream through a 108mm W x 78mm L (~4.25" W x ~3" L) opening.
  • Ideal For: Bedrooms, furniture-heavy spaces.
  • Purpose: Enhance airflow distribution for better cooling or heating.
  • Material: Optimized for 3D printing with PLA or PETG.
  • Design: Low-profile, easy to install, no tools required.

Personal Notes

I initially glued a standard magnetic laminated vent blocker to the bottom for an easy and clean magnetic attachment to metal vents, then trimmed the excess for a polished, low-profile look.
Now, with the new magnet-compatible models, there's an even stronger and cleaner way to attach the redirector!

Printing Notes

  • Supports: Required for most printers unless your setup is dialed in with god-tier bridging capabilities.
  • Recommended Settings:
    • Layer Height: 0.2mm (standard recommendation), but 0.25mm is optional for embedded magnets if extra layer adhesion is needed.
    • Infill: 20-30% (for durability)
    • Material: PLA or PETG (PETG recommended for heat resistance if near heating vents)

Why This Design?

This redirector channels air from obstructed vents, focusing it into a single, upward stream regardless of vent style. A practical solution for improving comfort without compromising on style or function. A must-have for anyone looking to get the most out of their HVAC system without rearranging their room!
