Description
Here are two designs for holding a MagSafe compatible phone on a fishing rod. The first is a one piece design, with a captive clasp, that prints in place. The second is a three piece design intended for use with multiple size rods. The three piece design has a common platform and hex bolt holder (M5x12 mm or longer) and a configurable rod clip. Use the common platform and bolt holder and configure the rod clip for each rod. I designed these because I have a Deeper Sonar castable fish finder and I found it difficult to hold my phone to see the results while reeling in the fish finder. In more than one instance I dropped my phone, once making a hole in the screen saver. NOTE: REMOVE THE PHONE FROM THE CLIP BEFORE CASTING. The MagSafe connector will probably hold the phone, even during a cast, but I would not risk it.
In both designs the rod diameter and clasp height can be configured. To modify either of these parameters load the appropriate f3d file into Fusion 360. Click on the 'Modify' menu and select 'Change Parameters'. A table with the parameters will open and you can change any parameter by clicking on the value. I selected a clasp height of 40 mm, but anything between 20 and 60 mm should work. I have included an example STL file for each design with an 11 mm diameter rod and 40 mm clasp height.
You will need to purchase a MagSafe magnetic ring intended for mounting a phone on a flat surface. The rings shown in the photos can be purchased from Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BQGHD2WJ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1, but other similar rings will work.
The three piece design requires an M5 bolt, at least 12 mm, and nut. I would recommend a hex head bolt, but a hex socket bolt will fit in the bolt holder. If you use a hex socket bolt, then you may need to use glue to hold it in place.
Update: a friend of mine has a phone case with a QuadLock mount he uses with his motorcycle. I have added a QuadLock adapter to replace the platform in the three piece design.
