Description
Never underestimate vase mode again!
While I want to print again LM8LUU to test my new Ender 5 bed, I seek many other option including vase mode one. But I still want the spin / screwed type then found one with OpenSCAD code. With double wall hack I already learned I try to make it vase mode and double walled. Testing it with my odd 8.3 rods I found it strong and nice sliding and become my favorit now :)
I print with variable line height it end up at max 0.34mm and only around 20min print than 1hour regular. Result is as strong as non vase mode, cant make it deform just by bare hand (other thin vase mode model sure deform)
BTW need nightly build openSCAD and use manifold to render to get fast result
Update: fixed some slightly wrong angle rib to get better result in slicer (especially orca), still work with correct radial angle.. current design already work nice as long as using compatible parameter (LM10 best while using 0,44mm nozzle while LM8 with 0.42mm)
Update v2: Finishing with correct radial angle for the rib but Orca still cant slice it well, maybe if will shine when the bug fixed :) You can try with other slicer, set Rad=1 in customizer to make it. Im not make it default cause old design already perform well for me
Update: I see many unwilling to download OpenSCAD and costumising, so I include some standard bearing design (with standard 0.4mm nozzle) with dimension as follow ( Inner-outer-Height)
LM8UU (8mm x 15mm x 24mm) , LM8LUU (8mm x 15mm x 45mm)
LM10UU (10mm x 19mm x 29mm), LM10LUU (10mm x 19mm x 55mm)
Update 7/7/2025: Update code slightly to add rib on bigger bearing. Found magic number for LM12UU (I add 0.1 tolerance on inner diameter) with following standar:
LM12UU (12mm x 21mm x 30mm), LM12LUU (12mm x 21mm x 57mm)
Note: tested on Orca slicing good, need using radial angle (Rad=1) and screw angle 180 if you want to customized. My custom print with 12,8mm inner diameter turns out very strong and smooth, will never print bearing without vase mode again :)
Careful different slicer different behaviour, Old Cura like to cut the circle and make opposite movement while orca seek random point to cross, Dont know / not tested on other slicer.
You can fill Outer diameter2 with bigger value if you only want to make 2 type bearing. Can make 2 type at once but I prefer (now default) one by one as slicer need to count distance for 2 object.
