Description
Didn't want to use a lot of filament to print the whole ramp out of PLA, not to mention the print time so I came up with this idea, since I had an unused Floor Protection Mat laying around. Even if you don’t, they are quite cheap on Amazon (about 30€ for a 150cm-by-150cm mat which will be enough for about 10-15 ramps, depending on the ramp size you chose, which is variable in width but in length somewhat predefined by the ramp parts.
I used a 30x38cm (length x width) sheet size. However, the whole system is quite versatile and can be extended/modified quite easily.
The sheet size should be consistently to remain the modularity factor, for standalone ramps feel free for whatever works for you.
The last revision of the ramp (V5) is a hybrid design. It can be used to build a regular ramp (with curved transition) or when flipped as flat ramp/bank.
The pieces have hole for connecting ramps in various ways (see pictures, e.g. a self-standing wallride which won't tip over when being used).
For the wallride I used 2 longer sheets, but you could also use 3 sheets per side as well. The Micro B i quite good in handling little gaps, so no need for perfection transitions/connections.
You can also but multiple ramps next to each other to form a wide ramp. Since the ramp profile is very small and the Losi Micro B has some ground clearance it, the whole ramp space can be used for jumping (including the connected side parts).
The floor mat should be from PC (Polycarbonate) which will give you enough stability for the ramps (the thickness usually is about 2mm). There also vinyl floor mats which won't be suitable, I guess.
The sheets are held in place by M3 screws. The wholes are chamfered, so usage of countersunk screws would be ideal but button head will work too.
I used a 2.5mm drill to drill hole into the PC sheets. The M3 will be fixed without a nut in this way.
You can print approx. 10 ramps with 1kg filament
The system utilizes very little storage space (15 ramps with sheets and additional ramps for Wallride stored in a 30x30x40 box)
The ramps are assembled relatively quickly.
I tried some different ramp types as well (camel, steeper ramp). With one sheet the PC sheets I used didn't like the bend radius which resulted in a bit skewed sheet. This can be resolved by using 2 sheets for those type of ramps (see pictures).
Print Parameters:
0.8mm line width (with 0.4mm nozzle)
2 walls
3 top/bottom layers
20% infill
~ 1h print time per ramp piece
For best results you will need a large size print bed (30x30cm).
You could print some of the ramp parts standing up on a smaller print bed (haven't tried).
