Description
The FreeDSM sky quality monitor project is amazing. I've made several FreeDSMs so far and decided to design my own case for it instead of using the PVC pipe case the project designers originally used. For me, printing this is a lot cheaper than buying the PVC parts and it works really well.
This case & mount work with the FreeDSM design here: https://gaia4sustainability.eu/freedsm/ It replaces the enclosure, but uses the same lens specified on the FreeDSM component list.
The fence mount is made to fit my fence, so the spacing may not be right for your mounting location. The current fence mount is made to attach with zip ties. If you'd like to design your own mount, the main hole diameter is 73.5mm. If you have ideas for other mounts, please leave a comment with your ideas. If there's interest, I may design a mount that screws into a wall or other surface.
Print the main case with the lens hole toward the bed. The small ledge where the lens attaches needs supports. I used tree supports...they're tiny, but they worked perfectly. Also, I printed the first 6.2mm of height in black to reduce any reflections that might happen near the FreeDSM sensor. After that, I printed the remaining portion of the case in white to help reduce daytime heating.
Print the screw with the 4 finger bumps toward your bed. No supports are required.
Infill and outer walls can be however you'd like, but the case needs to be water tight. So, use whatever settings make water tight prints for your specific setup.
I'd love to see your builds!
