Parametric Acoustic Lens (Viktors Berstis Design)
Dean Hedin August 2025
This parametric acoustic lens is an OpenSCAD implementation of Viktors Berstis original design which can be found here:
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3309638
Viktors wrote a paper regarding the design and performance of his lens which is available at the following url and I strongly
suggest you read it:
http://www.aes.org/e-lib/browse.cfm?elib=19881
Viktors also wrote a SNOWB0L program to directly generate his STL model. Which is quite an amazing feat. But it is a bit
cumbersome to get this legacy code working today.
So I though it would be better implemented in OpenSCAD. This would allow others to easily modify the lens for thier particular speaker and perhaps implement improvements.
This is not a port of Viktors' SNOBOL code, instead, it is implemented from the concepts described in Viktors' article.
You should use a recent OpenSCAD version with the "fast-csg" option, otherwise rendering can take a long time. As of 2025 "fast-csg" may now be part of the standard OpenSCAD build at this point.
I've added the choice of round or square base flanges. You can also specify the number of mounting holes, hole diameter,
wall thicknesses, number of "rings", etc..
Feel free to improve upon this code. Just be sure to acknowledge and credit Viktors Berstis and present the urls as listed above.
If you find serious bugs let me know through thingiverse messaging and I will do my best to address.
No support is needed for printing and PLA is a satisfactory material.
