Parametric Cable Clip
A universal cable clip allowing you to attach cables to walls using screws or nails of your choice, or simply bundle several cables together.
** Looking for a pipe/duct bracket up to 16"? Check out my design here**.
I tried to choose reasonable limits for various parameters. If they do not fit your needs let me know, they are easy to change.
Instructions
Web
Note: Thingiverse customizer appears to be broken. Please follow the instructions below for local customization.
Local
- Download the latest OpenSCAD Development Snapshot here. OpenSCAD is free software.
- Launch it and open the attached cable-clip.scad
- If you do not see the "Customizer" pane click on Window -> Hide Customizer
- Enter whatever parameters you want
- Press F6 or Design -> Render
- Press F7 or File -> Export -> Export as STL
Customization
Care was taken to set up parameters in such a way where minimal user intervention is required. Just enter your cable and screw diameters, number of clamps you want, and you should be all set. For special cases many more parameters are available and documented below.
Additionally, I provided an assortment of various clamps in the included 3mf/stls
Parameters
Main
preview
- Renders placeholder cables and nails
- Must be disabled before exporting so you don't end up printing them
cable_diameter - Diameter of your cables
screw_diameter - Diameter of your screws or nails
- screw_slop under Misc will be added to this value
num_clamps - Number of connected cable clamps to generate
clamp_depth - Depth of the cable clamp (Z axis)
- If screw sheaths are enabled the minimum of this value will be capped at screw sheath depth
wall_thickness - Thickness of the cable clamp wall
automatic_screw_cap_diameter
- Sets screw cap diameter to double the screw diameter
- If the screw sheath is below the top of the cable clamp this parameter will affect the diameter of the sheath so that the cap fits
- Adjust in Misc if disabled
screw_sheath_depth_mode - (Y axis)
- AUTO: sets screw_sheath_depth to double the wall thickness as z bonding is much lower in FDM printing
- FULL: extends the sheath to the full width of the clamp
- MANUAL: allows you to adjust the depth under Misc
Misc
screw_cap_diameter - Diameter of your hardware's cap
- Used only when automatic_screw_cap_diameter is disabled
screw_sheath_depth - Depth of the screw sheath (Y axis)
screw_slop - Value that gets added to the screw_diameter
- As the screw hole is inflexible and FDM printing precision in the Z axis is limited this parameter ensures that your hardware will fit.
- More slop = looser
chamfer_scale
- 0.0 - no chamfer
- 1.0 - chamfer extends all the way to the middle of the clamp
- To allow the screw head to fit, if the sheath is below the clamp top its diameter will be increased to account for the chamfer
printable_holes
- Makes screw holes tear-shaped so that they can be printed without overhangs
