Description
I needed to add some corrective lenses to my Ascent goggles for presbyopia... old age eyes. Didnt need them for any of my other FPV goggles, but here we are.
I didnt feel like ordering the frame from China, so i modified hansfbaier's design (great design, but the frame was too chunky and i was worried it would cut too much off the field of view). The second version (2) was modified after i had already made my inserts - i noticed i could go about 3mm taller for the lenses. As it is i am not seeing the lens frame in my field of view, but bigger is better so if i did it again i'd try the bigger lens. I bought some reading glasses from the 100yen shop and cut the plastic lenses to size with a dremel
Printed in TPU... Yes TPU. Use wall count 99 to effectively make them 100% infill. Even then its only 3g of filament and prints in 40 minutes at 30mm/s. No supports needed, though you might get a little bit of stringing in the upper layers.
Cut the lenses to be a 1-2 mm bigger than the frame holes. I put stickytape on both sides of the lens for protection, and then drew the cutting lines with a marker pen. Cut using a dremel with a cutting disc, and then wash the dust off an remove the tape.
TPU can stretch so this will accommodate the extra size and the strength of the lenses makes the whole structure sturdy.
The screw holes in the goggles are for M1.6 screws!! This is not a common size so you might need to buy screws for this. I used M1.6 x 6, but you could probably use 5mm or even 4mm if you already have them.
