Description
I wanted a way to securely attach an OpenGrid to the side of the Creator 5 so I could plan out PTFE routes and add a few tool holders to a modular system. It's surprisingly strong. Even strong enough that I can gently rock the machine back and forth from the center of the grid.
I've included both a chamfered and non-chamfered version. There’s no real functional advantage to either; it’s purely down to your aesthetic preference.
The tolerances are super tight, but everything fits perfectly using the "0.20mm Standard @FF C5" print profile. I bumped the infill up to 15% gyroid, though that might honestly be overkill.
Assembly Tips:
Installation: Slide the small spacer into place with the screw cutout facing upward until it sits flush with the top surface. It might take a little elbow grease, but they should press right into place. Use the screw that is intended for the spool holder to mount them.
The Grid: Print two 6x7 grids and connect them together.
Rigidity: Use the spacers and PTFE guides on the machine-side of the grid for extra stability.
PTFE Routing: If you use the PTFE guides, I highly recommend using a split PTFE tube (as shown in the photo) to make feeding the filament much easier.
