Description

Ball bearing supported stand-alone universal spool holder.

NB: Print in mm for correct size.

I wanted a spool holder, I couldn't find one that met my needs (I didn't look too hard), I made one that does. Hence, one extremely smooth, rugged and easy to use universal spool holder. Initially I thought it might be too smooth (i.e. just keep rolling even when the printer isn't pulling material), but I've been using it since January 2015 and it’s been working perfectly.

It supports virtually any spool type: in reality that means spools ranging from a 40mm to 130mm width, 40mm to 60mm inner diameter and pretty much any weight (relative to the range of spool widths).

What you'll need for the build:
• 1 x Bolt: 100mm length with 6mm diameter (and 1 x nut to match).
• 2 x Ball bearing: 22mm outer diameter, 7.8mm inner (bore) diameter and 7mm width.
• 1 x PVC Pipe: 40mm diameter with 490mm length (cut into 2 x 140mm, 1 x 120mm and 2 x 45mm length pieces).
• 3 x 90deg elbow joint: to join the 40mm diameter pipes (one of these links to the PVC Connector).
• 1 x Equal tee joint: to join the 40mm diameter pipes.

I'll leave it as a puzzle because it’s not hard and I'm too lazy to type out the instructions. You got this.

Since I have an Up Plus 2, I created a filament guide for use with this spool holder. You can find that here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:891379

Enjoy
