The ultimate rod rest pack

27-04-2026 V2 update

After extensive testing on the bank I've found that the layer adhesion in the vertically printed thread adapter is a mayor weak point. If you unscrew them from the bank stick and store them separately it's more then strong enough. But when they are attached to the bankstick the leverage makes it easy to snap off. Printing the threads horizontally makes it much stronger and I took inspiration from the excellent work by https://makerworld.com/en/@marius.chirita. and his buzzbar system: https://makerworld.com/en/models/880753-fishing-rod-rest-pack-buzz-bars-method-feeder?from=search#profileId-2137520

Although I have designed the new flat thread adapter from scratch my design is now fully compatible with his. You simply glue in the thread adapter into the rod rest with some superglue. The tight fit and ribs on the side ensure it becomes a solid part.

Other improvements include:

  • Redesign of the safety clamp rest. I added arms on the lower part of the gripper to press against, making it easier to clip the rod in.
  • Redesign of the V rod rest. I added some stiffness to the bottom without sacrificing the flexibility of the top part where it matters.
  • Redesign of the method feeder rest. Added some ribbing to keep the rod from sliding.
  • New 15mm flex clamp design. I still prefer the safety clamp solution but this is a simple and quick print and will work for most occasions.

I have kept the V1 for reference below. It still has some advantages, mainly the glue free install and easy customization.

V1, deprecated as of release of V2.

Although there are several really good alternatives on the web I wanted to challenge myself and design a complete rod rest system for every possible type of fishing. Probably way over engineered for it's actual purpose but I enjoyed the challenge and they are a joy to use.

Features:

  • The thread adapter is printed separately in the vertical orientation with 4 walls for extra strength. I have added a .step file so you can design your own rod rest using this system.
  • Included 4mm hex in the thread adapter to make it easier to switch between different top sections.
  • Flexible design for the V rest and feeder rest.
  • Completely redesigned the safety clamp rod rest with better geometry and a configurable design to suit all rod diameters.
  • No hardware needed! The safety clamp uses 1.75mm filament pieces for the hinges and after a lot of testing this has proven to be more than strong enough.

Print and assembly instructions:

  • Printed using SUNLU PLA+ but most PLA's of PETG will work. I suggest using a bright color so you don't lose them on the bank.
  • 0.16mm layerheight for the requires resolution for the threads.
  • The included .3MF has 4 walls for the thread adapter and 2 walls for the parts. Everything for 1 model is included on a single plate.
  • Use short sections of filament for the hinges in the safety clamp. I leave them 1-2mm too long and melt the ends with a soldering iron at 200 degrees Celsius.
  • Make sure the thread adapter is fully seated so it's nice and strong.

Let me know if you have any requests for additional models and features.
