Description

A fully parametric vial storage solution for 10ml crimp-top vials. Unlike 3ml vials, 10ml vials vary noticeably between suppliers — both diameter and height are Customizer settings from the start, so measure your own vials with calipers before printing. A validated alternate preset is included below. Includes optional label windows so you can read vial labels without opening the lid.

Two ways to print:

  • Ready-to-print profiles for common quantities — just load the plate you need and hit print
  • Parametric OpenSCAD file for any custom configuration your storage needs require

Need a Different Size or Vial? Use the Parametric File

The included OpenSCAD file lets you generate any configuration using the built-in Customizer. Layout is controlled by vials_per_row and num_rows, up to 8x8 (64 vials) — the largest grid that fits a 256mm build plate at default vial size. Vial diameter and height are fully adjustable, so this same file works with 10ml vials from any supplier.

Validated Vial Presets

  • Default: 22.01mm diameter × 54.0mm tall
  • Alternate (short/wide): 24.02mm diameter × 49.55mm tall

Customizer Settings

Vial Size

  • vial_od — vial body diameter, measured at the widest point of the straight wall. Measure YOUR vials first — 10ml vials are not standardized across suppliers
  • vial_h — total vial height, from the base to the top of the cap
  • slot_depth_f — how deep the vial sinks into its pocket, as a share of its height. Default 0.65 leaves the cap and neck clear of the pocket

Layout

  • vials_per_row — number of vials per row (1–8)
  • num_rows — number of rows (1–8)
  • render_part — set to base, lid, or both

Vial Windows

  • show_windows — turns label windows on or off. On by default, so you can read vial labels without opening the lid. Note: the window cutout has a flat top edge that may need supports depending on your slicer/printer — check the slicer preview before printing, or turn this off to avoid the issue entirely

Fit Tuning

  • clearance — increases vial pocket diameter. Start at 0.5mm, adjust in 0.05mm steps if vials fit too tightly
  • lid_gap_mode — auto or manual. Auto (default) widens the gap on small prints, which are stiffer and can squeak going on, and tightens it on larger ones. Set to manual to force an exact value
  • lid_gap_manual — the gap used only when lid_gap_mode is set to manual

Snap Feel

  • snap_p — snap tab protrusion. 1.2mm is the PETG starting point (0.8mm is too soft for PETG at this scale)
  • snap_z — tab position, affects how easy the lid is to pop off
  • snap_tip_ratio — ramp shape. Lower = gentler on/off feel

Recommended Materials

  • PETG — recommended for freezer or long-term cold storage. Handles repeated freeze/thaw cycles without becoming brittle. Use snap_p of 1.2mm or higher.
  • PLA — becomes brittle at freezer temperatures; fine for room-temperature storage or test prints only

Printing Tips

  • No supports required for the base or lid geometry itself — but if show_windows is on, check your slicer preview: the flat top edge of each window opening may need light supports depending on your printer and settings
  • 15% infill or higher works fine — these are solid prints that don't need to be dense
  • Print base and lid separately or use both to lay them out side by side automatically
  • Always measure your vials and do a small test print (2x1) first before committing to a large grid — 10ml vial dimensions are not standardized
  • Grids larger than 8x8 are possible in the SCAD file directly, but check your build plate size first

Design Notes

Designed in OpenSCAD, sharing the same snap-lid mechanism as the 3ml Parametric Peptide Vial Holder — a finger lift tab and chamfered entry for smooth on/off feel. Since 10ml vials vary significantly by supplier, this model was built parametric from the ground up rather than fit to one specific vial.
