This model is not for beginners. There are many interlocking pieces and minor tolerance issues can quickly multiply to create a non-functioning door and/or lock. If you decide to build this, please be prepared for some serious troubleshooting.
To unlock the door, enter the following combination with the dial:
Spin dial clockwise at least 4 times, stop on 25
Spin dial counter-clockwise 2 full rotations, continue past 25, and stop on 52
Spin dial clockwise 1 full rotation, continue past 52 and stop on 17
Spin dial clockwise until dial stops spinning
(watch the video if instructions aren't clear)
A few tips:
I recommend assembling this in the order presented in my video
Do test prints! Before printing 12 gears, try printing 1 or 2 to make sure the tolerances are acceptable
Don't skip steps. Use the frame jigs to set the dowels.
The lock itself is adapted from my ‘Bank Vault Combination Lock’ model. I HIGHLY recommend watching that video for instructions on how to install the lock. The 3 wheels of the lock MUST be installed in the correct orientation and in the correct order for the lock to work.
This project almost broke me. It is not easy to make. You have been warned…
I printed everything with Prusament PLA in: Galaxy Silver, Galaxy Black and Viva La Bronze
In addition to the 3D printed parts, you will need:
A variety of 5mm metal dowels. See diagrams below for sizes and quantities.
The acrylic cover is not strictly necessary, but I strongly recommend ordering one. If you choose to use the acrylic cover, please use this link to order from PCBway (it's an affiliate link so I may get a small kick-back if you sign up through the link) https://pcbway.com/g/4735ok
