Description

This is a wall-mounted reel holder built around a printed reel-seat-style clamp.

The reel foot installs the same basic way it would on a fishing rod: the front of the reel foot slides under a fixed front hood, the rear hood slides over the back of the reel foot, and the threaded locking nut tightens everything on the printed barrel.

I designed it for storing reels cleanly on the wall instead of leaving them loose in a drawer or bin.

Boost MeIf you like this, please boost me! It makes my whole day.

How it works

The mount has three main printed parts:

  • Wall mount body — the bracket that screws to the wall and includes the fixed front hood
  • Sliding rear hood — captures the back of the reel foot
  • Threaded locking nut — tightens the sliding hood against the reel foot

Once tightened, the reel is held by its foot, similar to how it would be held in a standard rod reel seat.

Left- and right-hand versions

The mount is offset to give the reel handle room to clear the surface.

Depending on the which side the handle is on, there are separate left-hand and right-hand versions. Pick the one that gives your reel handle clearance from the wall.

What to print

For one complete reel mount, print:

  • One wall mount body, left-hand or right-hand
  • One sliding rear hood
  • One threaded locking nut

Use the v2 files unless you have a specific reason to print the older ones. The v2 versions have more build-plate contact for better adhesion.

Print notes

Print the parts in the provided orientation.

No supports are required, but the mount body has enough overhang that cooling and bed adhesion matter. A brim may help.

For the threaded parts, use 0.2 mm layer height or finer. The threads may be snug at first; running the nut back and forth a few times should loosen them up.

Mounting

Use screws appropriate for your wall material. For drywall, use anchors. For a garage wall, shop wall, or wood backer, normal wood screws should be fine.

This is intended for storing loose reels. I would not treat it as a load-rated hanger for a full rod-and-reel combo unless you test that setup yourself.

Update notes

February 2025: Corrected the left-hand mount threads.

Earlier update: Added v2 files for both left- and right-hand versions with improved build-plate adhesion. Functional design is otherwise unchanged.
