Description
This topographic model of White Island includes a braille label on the base, on the south side of the island.
White Island, also known as Whakaari, is an active andesite stratovolcano (or cone volcano) located 48 km from the east coast of the North Island of New Zealand, in the Bay of Plenty. The island covers an area of approximately 325 hectares, which is only the peak of a much larger submarine volcano. The volcano peak is 321m above sea level. The height has been exaggerated in the model for tactile distinction.
The braille label is in Unified English Braille (UEB) with contractions and reads "white island".
