Klein CL220/CL390 Clamp Meter Hanger Clip

Fits CL220/CL390 clamp meter. The unique screw hole location on the back makes this version only work with this model for now. If I can get enough data on other models I might revise this design.

I needed something to hang my Klein CP220 Clamp Meter. I bought the $14 version, but it disappeared. It also had a tendency to slip on a vertical surface, such as an A/C unit, unless the magnet was hung over a horizontal corner.

Here is a cheap version that is more versatile. You can use hook and loop with a 30mm x 3mm (1.18"x.18" or close) magnet, or a cord to hang it. I use a piece of automotive wire which can be any length. One thing that works better than the Klein version, is that the clip does not slip off easily. When you push it on it takes a bit of effort and snaps into the screw hole on the back. I do not know if the hole on the Klein multimeters is in the same place as the clamp meters. If not, this design will not work for them.

There are various files here for various needs. Printing both pieces or separately. I have also included the .gcode files for Prusa MK3s printers. .2mm layers.

Notes:

The clip takes some effort to slide onto the meter. It is a bit tight. Just wiggle it a little side to side and continue pressing forward until it slides all the way on. To remove it, lift the loop end slightly, maybe a mm (.04") or so, and simultaneously push it off.

Magnets are available on Amazon, and elsewhere. You have to be careful because the vendor's descriptions are often wrong. For instance, the ones I buy (findmag) say 1.25 x .125 inches when they are actually 1.16 x .109 inches (29.5mmx2.8mm). Many vendors only sell 2mm (.078") thick versions. They are too weak! You can glue two together to increase the holding power, but frankly, I am not a big fan of the magnet method. Too much can go wrong an in some cases it might interfere with readings.

The cheap double sided tape disks that come with these magnets are not the greatest. If your tool will be used in a hot or warm location, the adhesive will eventually come loose. You can use a higher grade 3M tape. I prefer to use gel CA glue. clean surfaces with alcohol, and rough up the surface a bit with #320-#400 grit (lightly). Another important thing to note with the magnet holder, is that the surface of the magnet is very smooth and will slide on a vertical metal surface. Here I show adding a piece of drawer liner/lid opener rubber sheet. It will hold pretty well that way, but hanging it over a metal edge is safer. So is using a piece cord or wire, or even hook and loop alone to hang it.

The double sided hook and loop is ¾" (19mm) from Harbor Freight. It works fine and is cheap. You can also find some on Amazon. Make sure to evenly lap .75-1" and keep the lap joint inside one of the rectangular loops if possible.

The clip that fits on the meter should have some support for the two rails. I used triangular paint on support, .2mm release dimension. The included .gcode files already have that if you are using a Prusa MK3s. Otherwise, you will have to add some support yourself.

Let me know if this works on Klein MM models or not, and I will either remove them from the list of what this works on, or move the retainer that locks in the hole.
