Description
Apparently, 3D Fuel recently made changes to their spools, adding a notch to the OD of the spool to hold the filament end. It works wonderfully for that purpose, but for those of us that have the spool resting on bearings on the spool rim, it's a nightmare. The notch tends to catch on the axel / bearings, and makes a loud thunking noise a couple times a revolution. Large sharp noises during printing is not good for the psyche, so I wanted a ring to snap onto the spool to smooth it out. I found a couple that just didn't work right or were annoying to print.
So I designed this one for simplicity in mind. Printed in TPU, it snaps over the outer rim of the spool. Easy on, doesn't fall off during use, comes right off when needed. High poly count makes for a smooth rotation. Doesn't block the standard through hole filament retainers. Considered adding filament clips to the design, but I didn't want them interfering with filament feeding.
Should fit just about any 8" / 200mm spool ring, not just 3d Fuel. If the fit is loose/tight, adjust the XY scaling in your slicer by ~1% to adjust. Does require a ~220x220mm bed to print.
